Day 1 Cusco Capuliyoc Chiquisca FOOD: Lunch and dinner. OVERNIGHT: chiquisca in the cabins already established. MAXIMUM ALTITUDE: 3200 masl. MINIMUM ALTITUDE: 1900 masl. WALKING DISTANCE: 19Km approx. We leave Cusco early in the morning, 6:00 am we drive through a spectacular area through the farmlands of the Anta plateau, surrounded by the snow-capped peaks of the Andes. The winding road descends more than 1,820m to a bridge over the Apurímac Gorge, and then ascends through fields and leafy orchards before making its final descent to the district of Cachora, at 3,400m (approximately 5 hours), where we find stunning close-up views of the Vilcabamba Mountain Range. Along a gentle path capturing the first glimpses of the distant Choquequirao from the Capuliyoc viewpoint, which is in front of the majestic Pedrayoj (5482 masl). We begin the steep descent through an area of dry cacti, Ichu (Stipaichu), Bromeliads or Achupallas and orchids in the Apurímac River Canyon. Until we reach our chiquisca campsite (1900 masl) which is next to the Apurimac River (Great Talking Spirit, as the Incas said) where we will have our cabins already established. And our dinner, and then have some talks for the day after our walk.
Day 2 Chiquica Marampata FOOD: breakfast lunch and dinner. OVERNIGHT: marampata in our cabins MAXIMUM ALTITUDE: 3200 masl. MINIMUM ALTITUDE: 1550 masl. WALKING DISTANCE: 13Km approx. We have a succulent breakfast and then leave our campsite (chiquisca) very early in the morning, because during a small descent and then the ascent it is better to have cool weather. We cross the mighty Apurimac River on a recently built iron bridge. Through a wide path that ascends in zigzag, it takes us from the dry canyon area, passes through small sugar cane plantations to the altiplanic meadows, after 2 hours of walking we will make a small stop in Santa Rosa where we can buy mineral water, soda and taste a delicious Chicha made from sugar cane. After a short rest, we continue with the ascent until we reach Marampata (lunch place) in this place our steep walk ends. From this place we get our first panoramic view of the buildings and platforms of Choquequirao through a deep valley. The final leg of today's hike passes through the cool shadows of a native cloud forest as we approach the forested ridge (3,000m) where the Incas built their ceremonial center. We camp near the archaeological park of Choquequirao, this camp has a toilet and cold shower. And something extra we will have a hot shower. Place where we will have the afternoon free to recover energy for our visit to the city of Choquequirao. Day 3 Marampata Choquequirao Chiquisca FOOD: breakfast lunch and dinner. OVERNIGHT: our canañas MAXIMUM ALTITUDE: 3200 masl. MINIMUM ALTITUDE: 1900 masl. WALKING DISTANCE: 13Km approx. Very early our couple breakfast then visit choquequirao. We will have a 1-hour guided tour and time to explore the most important places in the Archaeological Park. Choquequirao is as mysterious as Machu Picchu and its name means "Cradle of Gold". The Río Apurímac roars 1,450 m below, and is visible on both sides of a steep ridge to which the Inca city of Choquequirao clings. As we approach the heart of the city, an expanse of huge curved platforms guides the eye towards an artificial hill and a ceremonial platform that overlooks the main square from above. The afternoon thermal currents attract Andean condors here, which fly over the complex of temples, mausoleums, royal residences, ritual baths and water channels, large meeting rooms, storage rooms, hidden gardens and a giant staircase where we can appreciate the "flames of Fire" These structures still stand as testimony to the careful planning of the Inca engineers. The excavation works in Choquequirao are very recent and archaeologists are constantly discovering previously unknown areas and structures. The steep slope below the main plaza displays several recently discovered groups of buildings, including what is called the Crest Group, the Temple of the Waterfalls, a fascinating ceremonial complex overlooking the cascades of a steep ravine. our camp and prepare our luggage to return along the same path, observing the great variety of flora and fauna; again through Marampata, (lunch place), Santa Rosa and Rosalina beach and finally we return to the shade of the fruit trees and avocado trees in Chiquisca, where we set up our last camp. Day 4 Choquisca Capuliyoc Cusco FOOD: breakfast lunch. MAXIMUM ALTITUDE: 3,200 meters above sea level. MINIMUM ALTITUDE: 1,550 masl. WALKING DISTANCE: 19 km approx. This day we have to start the walk very early because during the day it is very hot in the canyon, that is why we have to get up early to take advantage of the freshness of the canyon, in reciprocity we will enjoy the incredible sunrise in the Apurímac canyon and the last view of the archaeological complex of Choquequirao. As we hike 3 hours along winding trails beneath lush soft-barked trees, teeming with orchids and bromeliads, we again reach the montane grasslands that stretch out towards the Capuliyoc viewpoint. After a brief rest we will have our last farewell lunch and finally we will start the impressive trip back to the imperial city of Cusco.
